J. Boutin Cote Rotie 2006
Côte Rôtie - The name translates as “Roasted Slope” and the wine produced is complex, full bodied yet more easily approachable than its’ neighbor Hermitage. It tends to mature slightly quicker yet will maintain its’ complex nature for many a year. This is a region that is highly sought after and has a very loyal following. While it may contain up to 20 % of the Viognier grape, a white grape, in the final blend, the majority of producers use 100 % Syrah to demonstrate some of the best of what Syrah can produce.
In addition to his vinous projects in and around Chateauneuf-du-Pape, rising star Stéphane Vedeau also owns several choice vineyard spots in the northern Rhône. With low yielding vines, many more than 40+ years, he is able to craft intense, yet elegant syrah that he has named after his mother, Jeannine Boutin. The Côte-Rôtie is composed of 88% syrah and 12% viognier from 60 year old vines grown on siliceous chalky soils of gneiss and loess. The grapes are manually harvested in small baskets in two passes in order to obtain both an earlier and latter ripeness level. Maturation takes place over 18 months in 300L Tronçais oak barrels. 13.5% abv.
Chateau D'Aussieres
Château d'Aussières is the “cuvée of excellence” resulting from very strict selection from the best parcels of the vineyard and produced in limited quantity. 40% is aged in oak barrels during 12 to 16 months.
The Chateau d'Aussières is a wine of density and exceptional finesse which fully express the richness of the late-ripening and cool terroir, perfect for producing elegant wines.
Thie Wine is composed of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan. It is aged 12 to 16 months in oak barrels.
